  • Musca Marine Design | Hydrofoil design

Musca Marine Design specializes in advanced naval architecture, hydrofoil design, CFD simulations, shaping the future of high-performance vessels." SHAPING THE FUTURE OF NAVAL ARCHITECTURE AND FOIL DYNAMICS Based in New Zealand, Musca Marine Design is a premier design and engineering studio offering advanced naval architecture and hydrodynamic solutions for high-performance vessels. Founded by Giuseppe Musca, our firm specializes in both boat design and ship design, with a particular focus on foil-assisted and fully foiled vessels. We design high-efficiency monohulls, foil-assisted catamarans, and optimize the hydrodynamics of each vessel to enhance performance, fuel efficiency, and sustainability for both commercial and recreational applications. We integrate Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) into our design process, alongside the most sophisticated CAD software. CFD enables us to refine hull shapes, optimize foil configurations, and analyze flow behavior to enhance hydrodynamic efficiency, improve dynamic stability, and reduce resistance. This results in boats and ships that are faster, more fuel-efficient, and built for superior performance. As experienced Naval architect, we bring innovative solutions to life, combining cutting-edge technology, experience, and a commitment to sustainable, high-performance design. Whether you're creating a new vessel or retrofitting an existing design, Musca Marine Design delivers exceptional results tailored to your needs.

  • ABOUT US | Musca Marine Design

At Musca Marine Design, we push the boundaries of innovation in hydrofoil design, hull development, advanced marine simulations, and naval architecture — delivering precision-engineered solutions for the most demanding maritime challenges Giuseppe Musca MEng - Naval Architect - Foil designer - CFD engineer Giuseppe Musca is a Senior Naval Architect, Yacht Designer, CFD Specialist, and Consultant devoted to engineering high-performance vessels that challenge conventional limits in hydrodynamic efficiency and foil technology. Holding a degree in Mechanical Engineering with a thesis focused on Computational Fluid Dynamics, and a Master in Yacht Design, Giuseppe brings over 15 years of experience in naval architecture, CFD simulation, and performance-driven marine design. His work reflects a combination of deep technical knowledge, hands-on experience, and a relentless drive to advance modern yacht engineering. Giuseppe’s core expertise lies in the development of advanced catamarans and monohulls that harmonize speed, fuel efficiency, and innovation underpinned by precision design and next-generation hydrofoil systems. He has designed a wide range of monohulls, foil-assisted, and semi-displacement catamarans between 10 and 27 meters and has served as a performance consultant on more than 40 vessels. Among his most valued collaborations is his ongoing work with Roger Hill, a renowned guru in catamaran design and a close friend whose mentorship and shared vision have greatly influenced Giuseppe’s design approach. He has also worked alongside top-tier studios such as Lomocean Design, Artnautica, Daniele Rizzo, Roberto Curtò, and Akes Design, as well as established shipyards including Pachoud Yachts, Voodoo Yachts, and Profab Engineering. During his 9-year tenure as Principal Naval Architect at Voodoo Yachts, one of the most important yards in the foil-assisted catamaran field, Giuseppe gained extensive hands-on experience in the production environment, bridging concept and construction with precision and passion. He played a pivotal role in redefining the hydrodynamic architecture of the fleet, overhauling the hull forms, appendages, rudders, fairing blocks, wedges, interceptors, and prop tunnels to dramatically reduce drag and elevate efficiency. These developments were critical to maintaining the brand’s competitive edge in the high-performance multihull segment. As part of a rigorous design validation process, Giuseppe completed three oceanic passages from New Zealand to Fiji aboard the Voodoo Yachts XF60. These voyages provided invaluable insights into the real-world behavior of foil-assisted multihulls in high-speed offshore conditions. The experience directly informed refinements aimed at improving the next generation of designs, with particular attention to enhancing efficiency, reducing vertical accelerations to improve onboard comfort, and optimizing course keeping and maneuverability in rough sea. His current goal is to ensure that every hull design undergoes comprehensive evaluation in both flat water and seakeeping before entering to production. He is also the lead architect of the X-pedition Wing hydrofoil system, now a defining feature of Voodoo Yachts’ XF60, XF75, and XF95 models. The system reflects his pursuit of engineering excellence, delivering exceptional gains in speed, fuel economy, maneuverability, and dynamic stability over thousands of nautical miles in real-world conditions. His integrated design approach and attention to hydrodynamic refinement continue to push the frontier of monohull and multihull performance. Today, Giuseppe serves as Head of Naval Architecture at CargoKite (www.cargokite.com ), where he leads the Hydrodynamic R&D of a novel wind-assisted propulsion system cargo vessels. While fully engaged in this role, he remains available for a limited number of high-level consultancy collaborations reserved for projects that demand precision, innovation, and bold thinking.
